Statement from the Board of Directors

Statement from the Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of Club Atlético Osasuna convened an extraordinary meeting Wednesday afternoon to address the incidents that occurred following the match against Real Madrid.

The board is deeply disturbed by the violent scenes that followed Saturday’s match at the south end of the stadium and the panic many fans may have experienced as they attempted to leave peacefully after their team’s victory. The board also commends the civic responsibility displayed by most fans at El Sadar and rejects the criminalization by certain quarters.

At Wednesday’s meeting, the board agreed to create an independent commission to investigate the events of Saturday. The commission will comprise Mikel Vivanco (operations and assistance to members and supporters’ groups), Endika Rodríguez (member advocacy body) and Celso Galar (disciplinary body). Their task is to collect testimonies, speak with witnesses and gather as much information as possible to determine what occurred after the match and, if necessary, assign responsibility or take legal action. The club will collaborate with the commission to ensure members and fans are informed about the events and the roles played by those involved. The commission is also empowered to propose measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Finally, the board thanks Government of Navarre spokesman Javier Remírez for his presentation of the actions and possible solutions. The board will request a meeting with regional authorities to discuss who should lead security at events held at El Sadar.
